  • Start using up your frozen and canned foods
  • Check all your larger items of furniture will fit into your new home.
  • Start notifying everyone of your pending move and change of address details. Refer to our checklist of who to notify for assistance.

Have You Got A Quote Yet?

  • List essential things you’ll need on Moving Day.
  • Collect or buy sturdy cardboard boxes. JSR have proper removal cartons available for you.
  • Advise your children’s school of your impending move.
  • Decide your children’s new school.
  • Seek advice on how to organise your packing of contents into cartons.
  • Seek advice on how to prepare for packing, and transporting ornaments, collectables, antiques, fragile and electrical goods. Refer to our checklist of who to notify for assistance.
  • Select the new school your children will attend.

2-3 Weeks Before Moving

  • Start Packing, labelling each box. If you would prefer, JSR offers a full Packing Service.
  • Arrange with the Post Office to redirect your mail.
  • Arrange transfer of Household Insurance.
  • Arrange transit insurance for your furniture and personal items whilst in transit. JSR can arrange ALL your insurance needs.
  • Start packing and be sure to label each box. If you would prefer, JSR offers a full Packing Service for your convenience.

Last Days

  • Cancel local arrangements, gardening, newspaper deliveries, etc.
  • Collect dry cleaning, etc.
  • Have a final clean out, getting rid of all flammable liquids. For your insurance purposes NO FLAMMABLE LIQUIDS can be transported by your removalist.
  • Return any rented gas bottles, DVD’s, games or library books.
  • Clean and defrost fridge and freezer.
  • Dismantle swing sets, sheds, beds, etc.
  • If you have pets, make arrangements for their safe transport. See your veterinarian for advice on moving your pets long distances.

Moving Day

  • If you cannot be at the uplift address, make sure someone is there to meet the removalist, or arrange a key.
  • Carry with you essential items you’ll need when you first arrive. Also, carry your valuables and important papers.
  • Arrange to clean the property after the furniture is moved.

Last Minute Checklist

  • Check there is nothing left behind.
  • Check the Gas is turned off at the meter.
  • Check the electricity is turned off at the mains.
  • Check the Phone is disconnected.
  • Check all windows and doors are locked.
  • Surrender house keys to the new owner, estate agent, solicitor, or caretaker.
